What a heart-wrenching evening it has been. Sadly, one of my most cherished artists, the remarkable Tina Turner, has passed away at the age of 83. My early exposure to Tina’s music was thanks to my dad, who was a devoted fan of hers during my childhood. I vividly recall him playing her records frequently in the 80s, with a particular fondness for the song “Let’s Stay Together.” It was during those moments that I too fell in love with her music and became a devoted fan.

I also remember when I was 10 years old and my dad was super excited for the television broadcast of Tina’s Foreign Affair tour, which took place in Barcelona. And my dad had to record it on video, and we both watched it again and again, over and over.

In 1996 I was very fortunate to have seen Tina Turner live in concert, twice. It was her Wildest Dreams Tour. I was only 16 at the time. The first show I went to was at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, without my dad. He sadly couldn’t go with me. But the second time, later that year Tina came back and we went to see her show at the Amsterdam Arena together. I remember so vividly how my dad was really having such a blast. I never seen him like that before. We were pretty close to the stage so we had a great close-up view from the legend that is Tina. Such great memories.

Tina was just amazing! There is and never will be anyone like her. She has experienced so much pain and heartache in the early stages of her life and career, and yet her will to rise above that and continue on with her head held high is just so inspiring.

I am heartbroken that she has passed. But legends never really die. May she rest peacefully. Thank you for the music, Tina! You will be remembered always!

Here are some of my favorite Tina tracks! There is loads to choose from, but what is yours?
